Although this is only the second time that Princess Diana was portrayed in cinema after Diana (2013) (starring Naomi Watts, about her late years after the divorce and her relationships with Dodi Fayed (Cas Anvar) and Hasnat Khan (Naveen Andrews)), previously several TV productions have been made about her:
-Charles & Diana: A Royal Love Story (1982), starring Caroline Bliss, about the beginning of her love story with Prince Charles (David Robb), released barely one year after their royal wedding on July 29, 1981.
-The Royal Romance of Charles and Diana (1982), starring Catherine Oxenberg and Christopher Baines, which also revolved about the early days of their love story.
-The Women of Windsor (1992), starring Nicola Formby, centered on Diana and her sister-in-law Sarah Ferguson (Sallyanne Law).
-Charles and Diana: Unhappily Ever After (1992), with Catherine Oxenberg reprising her role as Diana and with Roger Rees replacing Christopher Baines as Prince Charles, about their failed marriage and final separation (divorce would be official four years later, in 1996).
-Diana: Her True Story (1993), starring Serena Scott Thomas, about her troubles with Prince Charles (David Threlfall) after learning about his infidelity with Camilla Parker-Bowles (Elizabeth Garvie).
-Princess in Love (1996), starring Julie Cox, about her relationship not only with Prince Charles (Christopher Bowen) but Captain James Hewitt (Christopher Villiers).
-Diana: A Tribute to the People's Princess (1998), starring Amy Seccombe, the first production after her death, about her last year of life from May 1996 to August 31, 1997, when she died.
-Diana: Last Days of a Princess (2007), starring Genevieve O'Reilly, which reviewed the tragic events leading to her death.
-The Crown (2016), where Diana is played by Emma Corrin (Season 4) and Elizabeth Debicki (Season 5).
