The site, operated by Worldstar, LLC, was founded by Lee "Q" O'Denat. Described by Vibe as a "remnant of the GeoCities generation", the site regularly features shocking events caught on video, music videos and assorted content targeted to young audiences. O'Denat, who referred to himself as a "Haitian ghetto nerd", described WorldStarHipHop as the "CNN of the ghetto".

Eatyourkimchi (Eat Your Kimchi, also titled Simon and Martina from 2016–2020) is a YouTube video blog channel created by Canadian expatriates Simon Stawski and Martina Sazunic in 2008. The channel featured videos about their lives in South Korea, including food, cultural differences, and popular media. In 2012, they registered Eatyourkimchi as a company in South Korea and opened their own studio in Seoul, which remained operational until 2015.

Alive in Baghdad is a weekly news video blog, or vlog, based in Baghdad, Iraq, distributed via website and RSS. They employ Iraqi journalists to produce videos covering various topics on daily life in Iraq following the Second Gulf War, including a piece on citizens trying to protect their neighborhood from insurgent death squads, another on what it is like to be an Iraqi Police officer, and interviews with car bomb survivors. The footage is shot by Iraqis and edited in the United States.
