Courtney Whitmore is a superheroine known as Stargirl (often called "Stars" or "Star") in the DC Comics Universe. Originally known as the second Star-Spangled Kid, she began using the name "Stargirl" after she was presented with the Cosmic Staff by Jack Knight. The character is a creation of Geoff Johns, who based her personality on that of his sister, also named Courtney, who died in the explosion of TWA Flight 800 in 1996. Johns is an avid fan of Captain Carrot and the Zoo Crew and Courtney's original outfit is similar to Zoo Crew member Yankee Poodle's; in the comics, this is explained by Courtney being a fan of Yankee Poodle.

TWA Flight 800 is a 2013 documentary television film promoting discredited conspiracy theories about the 1996 crash of TWA Flight 800. The film explores claims that a missile strike had actually downed TWA Flight 800, contrary to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) conclusion that a short circuit caused the 1996 fuel tank explosion. The film was written and directed by Kristina Borjesson, and co-produced by Tom Stalcup, who also served as the narrator. The film runs 90 minutes and first aired on Epix on July 17, 2013.

TWA Flight 800 conspiracy theories are alternative explanations of the crash of Trans World Airlines Flight 800 (TWA 800) in 1996. The NTSB found that the probable cause of the crash of TWA Flight 800 was an explosion of flammable fuel/air vapors in a fuel tank, most likely from a short circuit. Conspiracy theories claim that the crash was due to a U.S. Navy missile test gone awry, a terrorist missile strike, or an on-board bomb. In 2013, a documentary alleging that the investigation into the crash was a cover-up made news headlines with statements from six members of the original investigation team, now retired, who also filed a petition to reopen the probe.
