Dattatreya Balkrishna Kalelkar (1 December 1885 – 21 August 1981), popularly known as Kaka Kalelkar, was an Indian independence activist, social reformer, journalist and an eminent follower of the philosophy and methods of Mahatma Gandhi.

Umashankar Jethalal Joshi ( ) (21 July 1911 – 19 December 1988) was an Indian poet, scholar and writer known for his contribution to Gujarati literature.

Tribhuvandas Purushottamdas Luhar, better known by his pen name Sundaram, (22 March 1908 – 13 January 1991), was a Gujarati poet and author from India.

Jagdish Joshi (born 1937-2016) is an Indian children's book illustrator. Born 1937, he studied fine arts at the Indian College Of Arts And Draftsmanship, Dum Dum, Kolkata and later worked for the Hindustan Times and Children's Book Trust. He also illustrated several books for the National Book Trust, and remained "one of most sought after" illustrators in children's literature in India, through the 1990s.

Suresh Hariprasad Joshi (Gujarati: સુરેશ હરિપ્રસાદ જોશી) was an Indian novelist, short-story writer, literary critic, poet, translator, editor and academic in the Gujarati language. Along with his teaching career, he led the modernist movement in Gujarati literature. He was prolific writer and he transformed the field of literary criticism.

Rajendra Anantrai Shukla is a Gujarati poet. He taught at various places before voluntarily retiring. He published several poetry collections which won him several major Gujarati literary awards.

Rajendra Keshavlal Shah (28 January 1913 – 2 January 2010) was a lyrical poet who wrote in Gujarati. Born in Kapadvanj, he authored more than 20 collections of poems and songs, mainly on the themes of the beauty of nature, and about the everyday lives of indigenous peoples and fisherfolk communities. In his poems using Sanskrit metrics, he was influenced by Rabindranath Tagore. He is considered as one of the giants of post Gandhi-era in Gujarati literature.

Kundanika Kapadia (11 January 1927 – 30 April 2020) was a Gujarati novelist, story writer and essayist from Gujarat, India.

Anil Ramanath Joshi (28 July 1940 – 26 February 2025) was an Indian Gujarati-language poet and essayist from Gujarat. He won the Sahitya Akademi Award for Gujarati in 1990 for his essay collection Statue (1988). His significant works include Kadach (1970; Collection of poems), Barafna Pankhi (1981; Collection of poems) and Pavan Ni Vyaspithe (1988; Collection of Essay).

Bindu Bhat is a Gujarati language novelist, storywriter, critic and translator from Gujarat, India. Her novel Akhepatar (1999) received the Sahitya Akademi Award for the year 2003. Her other significant works includes Mira Yagnikni Dayari (1992) and Bandhani (2009).
