It supervises the railway network within Yunnan. The railway administration was reorganized as a company on November 2017.

    The Shanghai–Kunming high-speed railway is a high-speed railway line. It was built in stages and completed on 28 December 2016. It is part of the CRH's system of passenger-dedicated lines, beginning in Shanghai and ending in Kunming, the capital of Yunnan Province. Following a fairly similar route to the older "conventional" Shanghai–Kunming Railway, the Shanghai–Kunming high-speed railway passes through four more provincial capitals, the cities of Hangzhou, Nanchang, Changsha, and Guiyang.

    Gaoligongshan Tunnel or Gaoligong Mountain Rail Tunnel (Chinese: 高黎贡山隧道) is a tunnel between Nujiang Station and Longling Station on Dali–Ruili railway in Yunnan, China. It crosses through the whole territory of Longling County and then into Mangshi. Gaoligongshan Tunnel is the key project of Yunnan–Burma railway between Dali and Ruili. The length of tunnel is 34.586 km, it makes Gaoligongshan Tunnel to be the longest single-track railway tunnel under construction in China, also is the longest mountain railway tunnel of Asia and the 7th longest tunnel of the world.

    The Kunming–Yuxi–Hekou railway is a standard-gauge railway in Yunnan Province of China, linking the provincial capital Kunming with the town of Hekou on the Vietnamese border. Constructed in several stages between 1989 and 2014, the Kunming–Yuxi–Hekou railway has largely replaced the Chinese section of the old metre-gauge Kunming–Haiphong railway for normal passenger and cargo transportation. The line is electrified, but single-tracked over most of its length.

    Nanning–Kunming high-speed railway (formerly known as the Yunnan–Guangxi high-speed railway) is a high-speed railway connecting Nanning and Kunming, respectively the capitals of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Yunnan Province. It will have a total length of 715.8 km (444.8 mi) of electrified double-track railways, built to the Grade 1 standard. Positioned as part of China's "long-term railway network plan", to improve the layout and the development of South-Western China with critical infrastructure, it will be Yunnan Province's first high-speed transport corridor to the sea. With future Pan-Asian railways to Laos, Thailand and Vietnam planned or under construction, this railway will be seen as a crucial link between the economic powerhouse of the Pearl River Delta Economic Zone and Indochina under the One Belt-One Road initiative.

    The Dali–Lijiang railway or Dali railway (simplified Chinese: 大丽铁路; traditional Chinese: 大麗鐵路; pinyin: dàlì tiělù), is a single-track electrified railroad in Yunnan Province of Southwest China. The line runs 165 km (103 mi) from Dali to Lijiang and was built from 2004 to 2009. Bridges and tunnels account 98 km (61 mi) of the total length of the line. The trip by train between the two cities takes 1.5 hours compared to four hours by bus.

    The Guangtong–Dali or Guangda railway (simplified Chinese: 广大铁路; traditional Chinese: 廣大鐵路; pinyin: guǎngdà tiělù), is a single-track electrified railroad in Yunnan Province of Southwest China. The line branches off from the Guangtong station, near Kunming on the Chengdu–Kunming railway and runs west to Dali City. The line is 213 km (132 mi) in length and was built from May 1992 to June 1998. Major cities and towns along route include Chuxiong City, Nanhua, Xiangyun County, Midu and Dali.

It connects Shanghai, whose shorthand name is Hu, and Kunming. The line has a total length of 2,690 km and passes through Shanghai Municipality, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guizhou and Yunnan Province. Major cities along route include Shanghai, Jiaxing, Hangzhou, Yiwu, Jinhua, Shangrao, Yingtan, Pingxiang, Zhuzhou, Huaihua, Kaili, Guiyang, Anshun, Qujing, and Kunming.

    The Neijiang–Kunming railway or Neikun railway (simplified Chinese: 内昆铁路; traditional Chinese: 内昆鐵路; pinyin: nikūn tiělù), is a single-track railroad between Neijiang and Kunming in Southwest China. The line runs 872 km (542 mi) from Neijiang in Sichuan province to Kunming in Yunnan province through western Guizhou province. The Neikun Line was built in three sections. The northern section, from Neijiang to Anbian township of Yibin and 140 km (87 mi) in length, was built from 1956 to 1960. The southern section from Kunming to Meihuashan station, near Liupanshui in Guizhou, and 370 km (230 mi) in length, was built from 1960 to 1965 and became the westernmost segment of the Guiyang-Kunming railway. The middle section between Anbian and Meihuashan through Zhaotong and 358 km (222 mi) in length was built from 1998 to 2001. Major cities and towns along route include Neijiang, Zigong, Yibin, Shuifu, Zhaotong, Weining Yi, Hui, and Miao Autonomous County, Xuanwei, Qujing and Kunming.

    The Yunnan–Haiphong railway (Chinese: 滇越铁路; pinyin: Diānyuè Tiělù; Vietnamese: tuyến đường sắt Hải Phòng – Vân Nam / 綫塘鐵海防-雲南; French: Chemins de Fer de L'Indo-Chine et du Yunnan, "Indo-China–Yunnan Railroad") is an 855 km (531 mi) railway built by France from 1904 to 1910, connecting Haiphong, Vietnam, with Kunming, Yunnan province, China. The section within China from Kunming to Hekou is known as the Kunming–Hekou railway (Chinese: 昆河铁路; pinyin: Kun–He tielu), and is 466 km (290 mi) long. The section within Vietnam is 389 km (242 mi) long, and is known as the Hanoi–Lào Cai railway (Vietnamese: Đường sắt Hà Nội – Lào Cai / 塘鐵河内-老街). The railway was built with 1,000 mm () gauge due to the mountainous terrain along the route. Currently it is the only main line in China using 1,000 mm () .
