New Zealand human rights activists

Titewhai Te Huia Hinewhare Harawira (1932 – January 2023) was a New Zealand Māori activist. She was affiliated with the Ngāti Hau and Ngāti Hine hapū of Ngāpuhi and Ngāti Wai.

Anne-Marie Sharon Brady FRSNZ (born 1966) is a New Zealand politics researcher and full professor at the University of Canterbury who specialises in Chinese politics and its policies in the polar regions.

Tze Ming Mok (Simplified and Traditional Chinese 莫志明 pinyin: Mò Zhìmíng), born 1978) is a fiction writer and sociopolitical commentator, and has been a prominent New Zealand Asian community advocate. She was born in Auckland, New Zealand, received her degrees at the University of Auckland, and works in human rights and development.

Kamal Bamadhaj was a political science student and human rights activist, who was killed in the Dili Massacre in East Timor on November 12, 1991.

Margaret Ann Bedggood CNZM QSO (born 10 April 1939), known for a time by her married name of Margaret Mulgan, is a New Zealand jurist, and an honorary professor at the University of Waikato. She was the chief human rights commissioner for New Zealand from 1989 to 1994. Following this, she spent five years as Dean of the Faculty of Law at University of Waikato. Bedggood has also taught at the University of Otago, and tutors at the University of Oxford. Bedggood retired in 2003, but retains a position as an honorary professor and still supervises students.

James O'Dea (19 October 1935 – 27 November 2021) was a New Zealand trade unionist and activist.
